Mortar is working in partnership with the Communications, Culture and Engagement department at Hackney Council to pioneer the use of new technology amongst older residents in the borough. Building upon the success of the Hackney Circle, a membership group of over 350 older residents across Hackney, Mortar is delivering a programme of digital inclusion workshops, alongside a new intelligent platform for assisting the council in running and maintaining the membership.
The Hackney Circle’s platform will manage all of the memberships whilst offering registered users automated updates and notifications, including travel information and weather related information on the day, for the events and activities that they attend and subscribe to. The platform is aimed at reducing the Council’s running costs involved in operating and promoting the Hackney Circle, so as to free up the time of its staff to help support Hackney’s more isolated and vulnerable older residents.
Mortar is developing the platform whilst delivering a fundraising strategy that will see Hackney’s Older residents receive more opportunities for engagement, driving down isolation and alienation, to create real sustainable impact in how the borough’s businesses and venues interact with and support their older communities.
